An Interview with Spicy Prawn

Spicy Prawn is a DJ based in Bristol. She is known for her dynamic, fun jungle and DnB style. She has also worked with collectives such as Music from Mothership and AAA Academy. She is one of our Ambassadors.

Q: Why did you decide to get involved with Croakheads?

I had just moved to Bristol in 2025 and Croakheads kept popping up on my Instagram. I decided to go down to their event on my own, to see what they were about, and it was such a good vibe! It felt like something I wanted to get involved with, so I applied to be an ambassador.

Q: What can we expect from your sets and mixes?

Expect all the jungle flavours! That’s where my heart lies, but I also enjoy a broad spectrum of drum & bass. Recently, I’ve also started exploring my love for other genres too, particularly all things bouncy with that free party spirit.

Q: What grassroots venue has shaped you the most, and why?

Oooh, I’d say The Crown! I started off playing at open decks here and also played my first official set here too! I’ve had so many great nights here with grassroots collectives and local DJs.

Q: What is the biggest challenge facing grassroots venues right now?

Venue closure. We’ve really got to work hard to raise money and awareness to keep these gems thriving. They’re so important for local artists, communities, and keeping the underground alive!

Q: Last but not least, what has been your favourite part of your Croakheads journey so far?

Definitely the people! I’ve met so many amazing people through this community, from moving to a new city knowing nobody to now being part of a community full of people with a shared passion.
